Mother's Hands
English words by Greg Irwin
Mother's hands worked all night long
Knitting gloves to keep my young hands warm
When the winter cold wind blew
In my heart I always knew
She was there to keep me safe from harm
I can still smell the fire on the letters now from home
And I can, I can still see Mother's hands.
Mother's hands knitting one thread at a time
Working hard into the winter's night
And my father used to say
Make us proud of you someday
As he worked a quiet farmer's life
I can still see the snow and hear the country radio
And I can, I can still see Mother's hands
Mother's hands were so cracked and dry
But she tried to keep them soft like mine
But there were always chores to do
When the Winter cold was through
There were fields to plant and flowers too
I can still hear the stream as it ripples in the Spring
And I can, I can still see Mother's hands.
